Setting Goals that Matter with Amanda Lairsey

Are you a serious planner? By planner… I mean those of you cannot live your life without a plan! I’m one of those. The life of a planner is hard… BECAUSE… plans change.

I consider December to be planning month. It is when I start thinking about what I’ve accomplished throughout the year and what I want to accomplish in the next year.

As a blogger, I am always trying to create new content. Always. In December (planning month), I decided that I needed help with content on my blog. So, started forming relationships with other bloggers for “guest posts.” I asked all of my guest bloggers for December and January to write about GOAL SETTING and PLANNING.

A few weeks back, I had Leah Lesesne on as a guest blogger. Find her article here. Leah said that the key is Holistic Planning: Body, Mind, Spirit. I knew that I wanted to speak on goal setting for January, but it was after Leah’s guest post that I realized… we needed to talk about more than your business today.

Who are you?

You’re a business owner or an aspiring entrepreneur, but you’re also mom, wife, sister, friend, aunt… You’re more than a business owner. SO… shouldn’t your goals include MORE than business things?

Christy Wright said “You don’t have a work life and a home life… you have ONE life.

So, if that is true… then shouldn’t we make sure that our goals are all encompassing for this year? Let’s talk about BUSINESS, PERSONAL, and RELATIONSHIP goals for 2017.

The Mad Circle of Chaos

Your business affects your relationships. Your health affects your business. Your relationships affect your health. It is really a mad circle of chaos.

Often times, we don’t create boundaries between them.

When we talk about goal setting for 2017… we are talking about all of those things.

Setting Personal Goals

In order to be AMAZING entrepreneurs, we have to take care of ourselves first. Personal Goals such as time for yourself, health, being active, beauty salon visits, meditating…

When we don’t have personal goals… it is not a priority.

Setting Relationship Goals

The blog’s mission. Relationship goals are goals such as time for friends, date night with spouse, time to network, time to enjoy someone else’s’ company, and/or time for someone to pour into you.

Relationships make your business successful.

When you don’t have relationship goals… it is not a priority.

Setting Business Goals

What do business goals look like? They look something like this: growing a following, emailing regularly, creating a brand, getting in front of your audience more, even more specific like… 200 clients by the end of the year.

Specific Business Examples Discussed:

    1. Real estate agent – 35 listings
    2. Bakery – taking pre orders
    3. Coach/consultant – consistent clients
    4. Speaker – speak at five events
    5. Fashion stylist – work with three photographers
    6. Facebook group into website

Here is what NOT having a business goal will do…

Not having proper business goals will cause you to make rash decisions that have nothing to do with the success of your business. Have you ever been to the grocery store without a list? That is exactly what is like.

Real life example of not having a plan:  Angie’s List called construction company. The rep told me about their “big deal special” for maintenance. I was LIKE YES! But then I had no one to do the maintenance.

Here are some realities about ALL GOALS

If they are not in your goal list now, then you’re not going to do it.

Setting goals makes decisions easier.

You need goals for all areas of your life… not just your business.

The Challenge

Write realistic and achievable goals on your planning board in your office. Put the goals out where you can SEE them every single day.

Once you’ve got your three major goals for the year (Personal, Relationship, & Business)… please bring them to the next Womenpreneurs Meetup and place them on OUR board! Because…

We are going to hold each other accountable.

As you accomplish these goals, we will celebrate.

Thank you for being apart of the Nashville Womenpreneurs! Click here to see upcoming events.

The notes from January's meeting are posted on the blog. If you missed this mastermind meeting, then you MUST check out Amanda's notes. We talked about setting REAL goals that are achievable, realistic, and hold great value for long-term success.
