A Tribe of Fearless Women

A few weeks ago I sat down with my partner-in-crime, Meagan Newell, to discuss a shirt concept for our Womenpreneurs Meet-Up. (If you don’t already know this… we co-host a women’s business meet-up in Nashville, TN where we lend support and build community to fellow lady entrepreneurs). Meagan and I struggled for several weeks on what to put on the shirts. We talked about “Boss Babe,” “Girl Boss,” “Wake. Pray. Slay.,” “Hustle & Grind,” and pretty much any other way to say bad*ss women in a more Christian way. We had been discussing concepts for weeks at this point. This particular meeting was going to be different because we were determined to come up with a concept that we LOVE or we would nix the whole idea. Thankfully, we came up with something that has my heart smiling real big.

I thought the shirts were about finding a way to build awareness and fund the cost of the meet up. NOPE. The purpose of the shirts was much greater. Let me explain.

There has been a word… one word… on my mind for the past few years. I’ve said it a million times to the women in my life. I even purchased a necklace for my mom two years ago with this word engraved on it. I purchased that same necklace for a friend. I wrote a letter to my brother about it. I even gave a speech to one of my coworkers about it not long ago. My husband’s favorite bible verse talks about it (2 Timothy 1:7) and we’ve said that scripture about a million times in the last year. This word has been overtaking my life. I just didn’t realize why.

Until now.

We needed a word. This was my word, but… What about this word for our shirts….? I wondered how that would play into the group or if Meagan would even like my far fetched idea.

I quickly searched Pinterest for the word. Immediately a concept and the scripture Luke 1:74 appeared.  Thank you Pinterest! That is why I love you so. 🙂

At the beginning of Luke we learn that another one of God’s promises is fulfilled by the birth of John the Baptist. The story goes something like this: An angel appeared to Zechariah and told him that he and his wife, Elizabeth, would have a baby. Zechariah doubted the angel’s claim because he and Elizabeth were very old. His disbelief/doubt resulted in him losing his ability to speak. Yes, the Lord made Zechariah mute. However… at the naming of Zechariah’s new born son, the Lord gives Zechariah his speech ability back. Immediately following John the Baptist’s birth, Zechariah gives a very profound prophecy. He says, “Praise the Lord, the God of Israel, because he has visited and redeemed his people…..We have been rescued from our enemies so we can serve God without fear.

That is it my friends!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We are rescued people who no longer have to live in fear of failing or losing. We don’t need to “win” by the world’s standards, but rather serve God to the best of our ability with the talent He has given us. By loving others, we are winning. We have no reason to fear.

What started as a word to be printed on a shirt ended up being a new vision for the group.

Womenpreneurs: a tribe of fearless women who are empowering one another to use their God-given talents for pursuing their passions.

This is why I love the Lord.

Even those little trials… like choosing a simple shirt design… turn into something bigger. The Lord knew that we needed clarity, vision, and purpose for the group. He used this idea of creating a shirt design to get us there. Crazy cool, huh? The most humbling part for me is that there will be a tribe of women marching around Nashville, TN wearing the one word that has been stuck in my mind for years. Talk about preparation. WOW.

Testimonies inspire.

I’m a firm believer in sharing stories and experiences with others. Testimonies have an amazing way of inspiring others to do great things and I want YOU to do great things. What is going on in your life right now? How can the Lord position what you are going through to bring good/light into this world? Often times the things that frustrate us the most (like going through ten thousand shirt designs), end up bringing good to our lives. I would even venture to say that the harder it is… the more good it produces. So… tell me your story! What is your most recent testimony for how the Lord used a frustrating/difficult circumstance to bring clarity/wisdom/good into your life? Comment your answer below.
