I despise mornings. Well, I did. Have you seen Tyler Perry’s movie called Madea’s Big Happy Family? Do you remember Byron’s crazy baby mama who constantly says, “BIIIYRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN”? Well that is what my alarm reminds me of every. single. morning.
My phone is mean to me each morning because it wakes me up, but I quickly forgive it when I see those red notification dots. Within five minutes of waking up, I’m checking notifications and scrolling through feeds. That is a common practice for many in today’s world, including yours truly.
A friend introduced me to an app called First 5. To say that this app is a blessing in my life is an understatement. I highly recommend that you download it right now. Instead of using the first five minutes of your phone time to check your notifications… spend them getting your mind in the right perspective. If you have an alarm like mine, then you’ll need it. First 5 provides daily devotionals and prayers that will help get your mind focused on Jesus.
As I get older, I enjoy mornings more.
YUCK! I can’t believe I just said that! I’m really getting old. My Bible study routine has drastically changed from year to year. In fact, my morning routine has changed too. At some point my mornings turned into drinking coffee, reading the daily passage found in my Bible App, studying my First5 devotion, and praying. The best thing about technology is that you do not need more than ONE device to complete a full-blown study. Between these two apps and the notes section (that is where I keep my on-going prayer list) on my iPhone, I can really keep my morning routine going no matter where I’m at. My husband and I travel a lot so convenience is really a big factor in sticking to my routine.
Another big contributor in my change from “I hate mornings” to “I love mornings” has been this blog. I’ll be honest, this blog was the first step in my business launch, but it brought out my passion for helping others succeed in their own careers. It also changed what I pray about each morning. Sure, I still pray some of my usual things (forgiveness, health, love, family), but NOW I also pray for my readers, my friends who own businesses, my clients, my topics for discussions and blog posts… I even pray over the people who interact with me over social media. My perspective has changed so much in the past few years… I now LOVE waking up to a new day. Sure, launching a business is hard work (<<understatement!), but with God on our side and passion overflowing in our work… we can consider a new morning to be beautiful, my friend!
What are you passionate about? What motivates you? What do you look forward to each new day?
I’ll leave you with one of my favorite moments found in the First 5 app. This moment inspired me to write my blog post entitled Perspective is everything.
“Life is hard and everyday trials cause us to struggle, sometimes challenging our faith. James 1:2-4 says this testing of our faith produces perseverance. Trials certainly are no fun, but as we endure them with help from God, our faith is strengthened, making us mature, complete, lacking nothing in Christ. Are you facing a trial today that’s testing your faith? How has past difficulty made your faith in God stronger and drawn you closer to Him?”
